Discovering the Healer Within, Aug 9 and 10
Have you ever wondered if you have the untapped ability to heal yourself and others? This workshop will explore this question as well as many other relevant questions about healing. Some topics to be explored: "What is Healing?" "Can anyone heal or do some people have 'special' gifts in this arena?" "Is faith a requirement for healing? If so, whose faith?" "What attitude and intent is most conducive to healing?" "What are some of the superstitions that surround healing work?" "Do we need to protect ourselves when doing healing work?" "Why do healings sometimes seem to 'work' and other times not?" This two day workshop intensive will include hands-on practice sessions and thought provoking discussions. Participants will have the opportunity to experience 'entrainment' to a higher healing frequency. The workshop is co-taught by practitioners of Light Touch along with Diane Gross of Stillpoint Acupuncture. The workshop will begin on Saturday, August 9 at 9:00 am - 4:00 pm and continue Sunday, August 10 at 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. Fee is $125 for both days. Registration is required. Workshop will be held at Quality Inn and Suites, 7067 Albert Pick Road, Greensboro, NC. Old State Street hopes to be a Great Street - article copied from the News and Record
Change isn't anything new on State Street.
This small corridor between Elm and Church streets once acted as a business district to a mill village east of Irving Park. It evolved into magazine shops and the notorious X-rated Star Theater, a seedy part of town just a hop from some of the city's toniest neighborhoods.
In the 1980s, this decaying district became a small shopping village where bars gave way to boutiques.
Now State Street Station, aged and a bit dusty, is headed toward what could be its biggest change yet.
A local commercial real estate firm is considering a complete redesign of the area, including the addition of more than 200 condominiums above street-front shopping.
Alliance Commercial Properties could spend roughly $30 million to $40 million in the next decade to give State Street what property owners describe as a shot in the arm.
In late 2005, the company bought a collection of buildings there from a group led by Len White, an Alliance principal and one of the key players in State Street's redevelopment in the '80s.
The retail village was an unusual choice for Alliance, which typically invests in centers anchored by supermarkets or major chains.
But Alliance principal Jimmy Black saw value on State Street. From the start, he had a different vision of what that area could become.
"There used to be more retail synergy there," he says, "and I would like to bring that back."
Over the years, State Street's longtime tenants have seen shops open, close, move in and move away.
Rick Wall, who has run The Pewter Place gift shop there for nearly 25 years, relished the area's heyday — and then watched as national retailers and new developments seduced shoppers.
The former destination became more of a best-kept secret, waiting for the right time for another reinvention.
That time has come.
Black's grand scheme of knocking down or renovating retail buildings and adding two to four stories of condos above street-level s
